The child and adolescent psychiatry major is the only subspecialty major of psychiatry in Iran, which was established in 1997 with the collective efforts of professors in this field and with the approval of the ministry of health, treatment and medical training in Tehran and shahid Beheshti universities of medical sciences and since then it has undergone many changes. Today, we are witnessing significant progress in the education and training of subspecialty practitioners in this field, so that with the addition of Isfahan, Tabriz and Mashhad universities of medical sciences, the capacity to accept subspecialty fellows in this field has increased. Currently, sub-specialist practitioners in this field are working in most universities of medical sciences and province centers of the country.
Some of the activities of child and adolescent psychiatrists include:
educating subspecialty fellows and general psychiatry residents, medical students and students of majors related to medicine and psychology, as well as participation in the development of educational curricula of universities.
Planning studies, conducting research projects, providing supervision and advice on students’ and residents’ dissertations and holding scientific conferences and seminars.
providing inpatient and outpatient clinical services to children and Adolescents with psychiatric disorders and developing clinical assessment and treatment guidelines for psychiatrists, physicians and psychologists.
Other mental health related activities:
participating in the development of national prevention plans, providing consultation to ministries, organizations and institutions active in this field, implementation of mental health projects at the university level, developing public education programs.
